I had an older Merc 2 stroke that stopped peeing but I knew the impeller had few hours on it. Turned out that while sitting on the trailer, some type of insect got in the rubber tube where the tell tale comes out from and plugged it with mud. Had to take a piece of wire and pull that out.

Ditto. My 50 hp Merc 2-str also gets clogged sometimes with milfoil debris, etc. I keep a 2 ft. length of 0.8 mm string trimmer line in the boat, run it in the pee hole as far as it will go, and then rotate it a few times. The nylon is less likely than wire to hurt anything, but is still stiff enough to be pushed in very easily and go through a spider egg sac or mud clog or milfoil chunk.
