I removed the old base by drilling out the tops of the bolts. It seems the decking has no additional support in that area (hence the zerts). I've epoxied a wide-flanged "weld nut" on the underside of the deck in the new hole locations to provide additional strength and future removability. I appreciate your thoughts on this.

I'd like to understand what you can tell me about the metal flake used on a boat like mine. I have a few chips (it's a 2008, after all) and if I wanted to do a repair, do you have suggestions on the material to use (flake size etc)?
