a little update here

went out yesterday in 2-3' rollers and the #*^@ thing completely came out from the mounting bracket on the base. Looking into cisco right now

There has to be an odd problem with the Ram mount because I don't see how that's even remotely possible otherwise. Maybe you didn't have the ball seated all the way into the socket?

I've definitely had some issues with my electronics drooping a little with the long arm Rams at the helm in rough seas, but most of the time they did the job well… also liked that I could adjust them almost infinitely. But agree the drooping was kind of a pain and I would have been looking somewhere else on my old boat if I didn't already have them installed.

I still use a Ram mount for the front and back casting decks in my current boat, and it works great for that application. I really like the versatility of moving it almost anywhere, including face down tight to the carpet, plus I never have to mess with the screen/bracket knobs to get a slightly better angle quickly.

I also have a 12” factory mounted in the dash, and another 12" bolted down directly above it using only the mount that came with the unit, this is absolutely the most sturdy way to mount all electronics provided there's enough room. I ended up default mounting it at the same angle as the factory in dash unit, and have been very-very happy with that configuration.

For you Lowrance guys, check out the extra bolts I added on the sides, why they don't have an outside hole pre-drilled there is sillyness... it makes a huge difference. When a friend asked what kind of mount I was going with on the dash and I said none... he was like; "really, wow I never even considered doing that".

This is not a dig against Cisco or Balzout mounts, they certainly look plenty solid.
