If it ran well after it warmed up, could be something that happens with my 90hp Merc 4 stroke, fuel injected motor on my pontoon boat. To store the boat in my garage, need to tilt the motor up quite a bit. Sometimes a small amount of oil will seep into the cylinders and the plugs will be impacted. This year that happened and had to run the motor for about half an hour before it consistently ran smoothly. I don't think it is limited to Mercury motors, the Suzuki dealer where I take my Pro V to be serviced said to store the boat for the winter with the motor all the way trimmed down to avoid fouling the plugs.
