I just traded Alumacraft 165 tiller for a pro guide 1675 Tiller and I run Etec. I have a lot of information if you want to PM me. By the way I think you made a very wise choice on both boat and motor. As far as trolling motor shaft length it could not be too long. I use 60 inch on 16' tillers. I use 80 pound terrova. I would say 80 pound would be bare minimum and possibly not enough on your rig. I have 3 27 series Optima blue tops have used these in my last three boats.
