I guess the question is more about that particular boat with a 75 hp motor vs a 75 Etec specifically? It's only rated for a 90, but it is a fairly good sized boat at almost 18' long and a 93" beam. Remember, the hp rating on a tiller is a bit less than the same boat in a console version. If this were available in a console, it would probably be rated for a 115. Obviously a 90 would give you a couple more mph and it would also make it easier to get up on plane.

How long will you be keeping the boat? It is often easier to sell a boat that is maxed out in hp. Having said that, my last two were not maxed out and it was not an issue during resale.

If cost is a non-issue it is a no brainer to go with the 90 in my opinion. If cost is a big factor, you would have to weigh out the cost savings vs. the bonuses of the little bit of added hp. And FWIW, they both weigh the same at 320 lb. From what it looks to me, the cost difference would only be in the $500 range or even less; not much when you are considering an overall cost of approximately $30,000. The larger price jump would be going from a 90 to a 115 because it is a physically larger motor and a jump from 3 to 4 cylinders.
