I did a complete redo of my boat last year. I used contact cement as well as the 3M spray referenced above and a glue gun like you would use for crafts. My brother does flooring and on all the large surfaces we used contact cement, painted it on and let it set up, then rolled and stretched it into place. We would also use the spray on the edges as well at the hard to get to areas, and lastly we would use the glue gun to tack down edges if we felt we couldn't get good application otherwise.

I feel it did a great job and I've gotten a ton of complements on my carpet once my boat was finished, I've already fished it hard and it's held fast without any of the buckling you see on some repairs.
