I read one very unconfirmed rumor that evenrude is developing a 4 stroke, as far as Yamaha I doubt will change for many years as they have been expanding there sho lineup. Suzuki recently dropped a v8 counter rotating motor but it's heavy! Honda is currently following a aftermarket job on an 150 outbourd, this is cool ( apparently the motor is the same as a car they make, and a hot rod shop and a boating enthusiast teamed up to make the little 4 cylinder up to 250-400 hp and the KICKER IS Honda asked if they could demo it at show, and seems to have caught there attention, so hopefully some wheels get turning and they follow through- some of the gofast boaters would really like a small block motor that can turn that power) but the down side is there lower unit along with everyone else is NOT AS STRONG AS A MERCURY who apparently has a patent on the composition of aluminum in the lower unit
