"shouldn't be the issue." ... sounds like your still kind of guessing at the problem Mike.

I recommend to all my boating friends... just say no to any in-line fuses. IMHO new boats should already have a dedicated fuse panel and on/off switch like this for electronics.

With a fuse panel you would 100% know if the problem is with the unit before sending... still recommend hooking up directly to battery (and now with what 39 said a new fuse holder) before sending.
