Do you have a smallish supply line or corrosion in the old plug… the 12 requires more power than a 7.

Assuming it's a new unit? ... hook up the new power cable directly to the battery to help troubleshoot.

The unit is new but a replacement for my 8 so it was not sent with any additional power cables. Lowrance has confirmed the power cables are identical.

I understand the power cables should work (and agree that's probably not the cause), but also guessing it would be very rare for this unit not to operate properly being brand-new.

You're a couple of wire connectors/zip ties away from troubleshooting by hooking up the old power cord directly to the battery... that would be something I would want to check before sending it back.

Or a volt meter to the power pins on the cord. If you're getting good voltage (12- 12.4V) to the power cord rigged as is, it shouldn't be necessary to un-rig the cable. It may be a fault in the control board of the unit if it only powers on the backlight and not the processor.
