| Ask to take it out and run it. Change lower unit oil before you go out. Watch for water in it. Check it again after and see if it has changed. Slow speed idle should be smooth, If it runs rough it could be anything from bad gas to a loss of a cylinder. Last ask what it was used for and about how many hours a year were put on. Motors should show some wear. A scratch here or a ding there shouldn't affect how a motor runs, but if a guy tells you that he fished every day with the motor, and there is not a scratch on it, something is not right and I would watch it.
