I have a 20ft pontoon with a 90hp Mercury 4 stroke and I bought it new with a 54lb Minn Kota pontoon trolling motor. I don't use it much anymore but it was fine as long as there was not a lot of wind. The problem is that if you have a cross wind, the pontoon slides sideways much easier than a deep v fishing boat. The higher profile of a pontoon catches a side wind like a sail. The additional thrust will help you going into the wind but a strong cross wind is going to take a lot of power to overcome.
The pontoon was great to cast from, like standing on a dock. But wind was an issue. I live on a chain of five small lakes so I could always find an area where the wind was at least partially blocked.
