The 9.9 Pro Kicker weighs in at 84 pounds. The 6 hp weighs in at 57 pounds. I'd go with the Pro Kicker, not that much weight difference.


Mercs web page says 108lbs for the pro kicker. The standard 9.9ml is 84lbs. If a 6hp will get the job done, go as light as possible in my opinion.


I run a Tuffy 1760, possibly a little heavier than this boat. BUT, at full blast, my 9.9 only goes 5.5mph. Just thinking a 6hp might be having you around 4mph. Not a big deal for trolling (though I love speed trolling!) but if the kicker was needed in bad weather or long way from home in place of a non-functioning big motor, that decreased speed and power might be sorely missed.
