boy I have not found this to be true.

i own a 2017 (built this May) 621fs with 350 vrod.

i owned a 2015 620vs before that.

i owned a 2012 619vs before that.

i would agree that the finish MAY be easier to scratch vs my 2012. Not positive. But possibly less thick clear coat.

i would agree some of the plastic attached to the consoles is a bit cheap feeling for the price of the boat.

However, everything else on my 621fs is a big improvement over my 620vs. the square corners have not been an issue at all. I actually prefer them. so many upgrades. things like the latches on the compartments are better. the compartments are more water tight. the 4th battery now in center bottom which frees up a compartment. the charge in the same. plug out back of boat to charge. side rod holders. wider inside floor. bigger gas tank. better inside lights. better switches. better floor covering. better storage space. now it takes more hp to getty up and go vs the vs but when I am on Lac Seul, GB, Eagle, Devils, or even the larger lakes around me (Fence, Trout) I can definitely tell the ride is better when the wind picks up. A lot of that is probably 621 vs 620 but the topcap is taller also. I hit 65mph empty which shocked me in such a big boat.

i read all the ranger bashing and was pretty hesitant to move to the fs but I can say unequivocally other than the items above it is a huge upgrade over my 620vs. And the trailer step and ulterra have also been very big upgrades. i am very happy with my new fs. and after running hard for a season I am glad I upgraded. Often have 3 fishing and plenty of room and very stable.

BTW - I fit several 9' rods in by boat no problems.
