Location: Chicago, Beverly | I always reccomend putting the OMC 2X4 fuel stabilizer in the gas even if used every week. On the bottle it has two different mixes they suggest, one for summer time use the other for winter. That should help some for the gumming I would think. OMC 2 cycle TCW3 oil also has carbon guard mixed in the oil from the factory. Helps prevent carbon build up. I'm not sure if MERC has products similar to these two but I know that stuff like pennzoil, quaker state, etc.. , despite meeting the standards for our motors are not the best choices. If you use other stabilizers in your gas I've heard very mixed things about them. When it comes to fuel system additives or oil for boats I only reccomend using the exact stuff used by the manufacture..I'll use merc stuff in a omc or omc stuff in a merc but not any of the other stuff. Also, some brands of gas may not be the best either, I saw a article a few years back where several engine maufactures were interviewed and all did not reccomend Amoco/bp, all seemed to agree that Citgo and I think 76 were good. Not sure what other brands they said. Maybe Mobil, not positive. Premium gas is also good though I seem to recall someone saying a certain motor it wasn't reccomended, your low octanes could cause some gumminng up. |
