If the carb is gummed up, that is more than likely an old fuel problem. Even more likely, it is a problem that was on it's way before you bought the boat last year. Previous owner may not have properly maintained the motor, and used some old gas, didn't use Stabil in it during storage, etc.

I'd suggest you use some Seafoam, Tune Up, or other such product. Just running fresh gas through it won't clean out the gum deposits. You're gonna need some type of system cleaner, like those mentioned. See you local marine dealer, see what he recommends. If the carb needs to come off, it shouldn't cost too much.

I had a problem one time with my last motor on my Tuffy. I left the tank vent open for about 3 weeks. When I went out the next time, it was the first time I fished with Greg. The motor barely ran! I put in some fresh petrol, and it ran good then. Seems as though the volatiles in the fuel evaporated through the vent. Never figured that would happen in 3 weeks.
