Location: Waconia, MN | Hello, quick troubleshooting question. I took my boat out today for one last fishing trip. I have a 40 horse power Mercury magnum 2 stroke, 1995. It took a little bit longer to start up today but I just assumed that was because it was really cold. The motor ran like it normally does for about 2 minutes and then it started to sound a little different. Over the course of the next 45 seconds it began to run rougher and rougher until it finally turned off. I had the boat out about 2 weeks ago and had no issues. So it hasn't been sitting for long. It has the same non oxygenated gas that I have always used and I didn't add any today. I know that I have enough gas and I know that my battery is good. At this point I can barely even get the motor to make a sound when I turn the key. Just a little jerk and clunk. I don't know if this means the motor is locked up or not. I have noticed a little bit of oil leaking over the last few months but not a whole lot. The motor has an oil injector and I am wondering if somehow that is not functioning correctly. I did swap out the spark plugs and that didn't make a difference. Any thoughts as to what this could be? I am just looking for a little peace of mind hopefully. I am going to get it into the shop sometime this week but it is driving me nuts not knowing. Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks! |
