Hiya,

What your axle is showing is surface rust.... very superficial and won't be an issue for many many years. You've got easily another 10 years or more given the axle stays straight...

If anything, the axle will rust more from the inside out as the inside is not protected. I think your axle has a long way to go before you'd see that kind of oxidation taking place
