i replaced a dual cable rack steering +cables myself last spring, i am prretty handy and do all repairs ,still a good job ! passing the cables if by yourself , i do reseach a lot before doing it if not familiar with that job and what i read about rack steering (not same as you i guess) that better to change cables too ,in my case the helm does not fit the new cables so no choice but if your cables are hard to move that could be part of the problem ! the hydrolic system costs 3 times the new cable helm kit.
