Thanks for the responses guys. I was quoted a reasonable price from one of the local marine shops, $200 - 400, so if it comes in at that range I'll be happy. AND they said I'd have it back by the weekend. They agreed that it was probably something in the helm stripped out, and replacing just that isn't a huge deal. I assume they can do it at least 3 times faster than me so that's worth the money in my estimation.
