Well if yo can't get into a 5 year old boat or newer may as well fix it. The costs on my old 1998 boat new with troller 200hp and sonar was 22,000 the same make and model in a 2017 is 67,000... Replacing transoms is not really hard for someone prepared and has tools. Many can be made to last forever and is worth it if that is all that's wrong. New boats are nice but have to consider that you may be buying someone else's problems that could be worse than your buddys
