Just bought a new to me Ranger 681vs with a 2001 mercury optimax 135. Engine has 205 hrs on it, I've changed the water/ fuel separator filter. new air filter, lower unit oil new water pump w/ impeller. Motor runs great at and above 1500 rpm, It runs kind of rough when idling in no wake zones and runs rough when in neutral and occasionally cutting out in neutral. The last owner only used it 3 times in 4 years so it sat alot and it had old gas in it about 20 gallons. he said he topped it off before we went for a test run before purchase. I'm wondering if bad gas would cause this, I ran 15 gallons through it with no change. I just added 15 gallons of fuel and some mercury quickleen additive. Any suggestions on what to check next? maybe plugs? or vacuum / intake leak? just looking for some ideas. |
