+1 to doing it on your own. My father and I redid an old fiberglass champion bass boat we picked up. We went for this option after realizing the cost of new carpet is just about what we paid for the boat...

The hardest part is scraping off the old carpet. All you need is glue, marine carpet, a sharp knife, a rivet tool (might not be necessary for your boat) and time.
