If I should get the Bird and someday update my HDS7 on dash to a Helix with Sidescan, will I be able to split screen the front bow Helix and see Sidescan from the rear on the bow unit??

Yes, you can see the SI and DI views of the other unit connected to the network, even if the unit you're viewing it on does not have SI or DI. Big plus to save bucks if you don't plan on having a separate SI or DI transducer at the bow.

Can I put a side imaging transducer on the bow??

A SI or DI transducer can be put on your trolling motor, but these transducers must be connected to a unit that has the capability to produce those sonar views, aka an SI. A non- SI unit will not recognize an SI transducer, and the same for DI transducers connected to a unit that does not create DI sonar frequencies.

However, you can view SI and DI readings from other units/transducers connected via the Ethernet network. For example, it allows you to mirror what you would be seeing on your SI unit at the console, up on the bow unit.

Simply make sure your software is upgraded on the units, as it was part of an update within the last two years. If you have them currently networked, all you have to do is go into your network settings on the unit you want to view SI/DI and go through until you see Advanced (ADV) sonar and select your SI transducer from the transom. When you scroll through views on this unit, you'll be able to see the images that your SI/DI unit is producing. Repeat on other units as necessary.
