I will be starting year # 11 on my 2004 150 Optimax, and I have been very happy with mine. I had one small issue while under warranty, and also had the fuel pump go, but that was due to some crappy corn gas I put in on vacation one summer. No other issues for me to speak of.

The smaller 135-150's were not known for the same issues as some people had with the bigger engines when they first came out The key is to let it warm up to the correct temp before putting the hammer down, especially when running in cold water ( I fish until late November ) and never have had problems. I would suggest having a smart monitor/merc monitor if one does not come with it as nice to track your temp and RPM's.

Some people think they are noisey and do not like the growl, but I like it myself.

Like many things in life, if you take care of your engine, it will take care of you.

Good luck.
