That sounds like a boat wiring issue of some kind.
I've got something goofy going on with my bow mount Humminbird: About half the time it shuts down or locks up when I start the big motor.

Everything else on the boat works great...

On this issue the dealer that installed mine used the power from the trim switch up front and it would kill the unit when I started the engine, as soon as I ran direct from the battery no issue's !
