i've owned big blocks 200-250's and mid blocks 150-175 and would do what i can to achieve performance i desire and stay in a 175hp motor. playing the odds of one asking you to spend big money at least in my experience over the years made me lean heavy to the mid-block motor selection.

if a boat max HP rating is 200, i would put a 175 on it ... and i bet i'd be up and flat quick, have a top end of 52-54 mph and cruise nicely at 40mph. ... with low speed flat running (15-20mph). that's what's important to me but everyone has different needs.

spending that much money and making that decision should be done only with a test drive. if a dealer can't arrange one, find a dealer that can. you won't know til you drive it, so why would you spend without knowing the most important piece of information?
