Quick sidebar: For a great smallie net, get a Frabil 17" x 21" trout net...I stick on on top of my bait boxes in a forward compartment, another in my converted live well in the back.

They'll hold a 6 pound smallie just fine, take up almost no space and are better for a fisherman who is by himself to handle than a long handled net.

I keep three nets in my boat: the two mentioned above, a, EGO S2 with a black rubber net on the back deck and a musky sized Frabil Power Stow that fits flat on the floor in front of the pasenger seat.

None are in the way, all are instantly accessible when I need them.
