Hiya!!

If you have a buddy with the same fixture, borrow his/hers first and see if that light works the same as yours or works perfectly. It narrows down the issue without spending money. If it continues to flicker, the short is somewhere between the base and the switch...most likely the base. The light mast will vibrate when traveling, so if it is flickering while under way, my bet would be loose connection somewhere at the base, or at the connectors leading into the base.

The base will come up with two screws. I'd say check your leads there first...
