Location: Otsego, MN | Had a voltage regulator go out in my old mercury 60hp going across a lake. The tachometer went to zero and starting bouncing all over then stuck at zero. I looked back and the motors oil level display looked grey/white. My dad and I thought she ran out of oil somehow so we killed the engine to investigate further. Popped the hood off and it turned out we had plenty of oil, the grey was from smoke as the voltage regulator had fried some wires and when we opened the hood we allowed oxygen in and flames erupted. I've never seen my dad move so fast for my fire extinguisher. The fire kept re-lighting into flames until we could get the battery unhooked. Funny story now but wasn't a fun experience at the time. That was a long troll back to the access and we didn't even catch anything with a couple rapalas dragging behind the boat on the way in... |
