One thing that contributes to used boat prices being high is scarcity. Starting in 2008, new boat sales cratered. During the worst of the recession, new boat sales dropped dramatically and that is now showing up in used boat sales. I was living in Fond du Lac, home of Mercury during that time and their work force was less than half of what it is now and they still had more people than demand required.
