Tilting the outboard down after pulling out of the water will drain the water out, never dry start the outboard it will damage the impeller and or water pump, I know because I did this and had to replace my impeller (not cheap) . I fish until the docks freeze up and tilt my outboard down and let all the water out, take your time and let it all drain. Never had a problem after doing this.
