My Pro Kicker with strap rides in the up position. I am new to this boat this year and don't have a lot of experience but when I spoke with a marine mechanic he stated that a small kicker WITH mechanical tilt/trim is light enough to rely on that for the support unlike larger motors. If I didn't have the controls for the kicker at the console it would ride in the down position.

I also have the support strap and it helps keep it centered while disconnected from the big Optimax. The strap only supports in the up position as it goes limp in the down position.
