Location: Hayward, WI | If it's an easy fix and you like the motor it could certainly be worth fixing. If it's a headache or expensive to fix, it does sound like a good chance to upgrade.
After using a standard Powerdrive for years (after running cable steers for a while before that), I didn't think I needed an Ipilot with autopilot, spot lock, etc. Now that I got one this year, I love it! I'd have a hard time going backwards now.
Anyway, it could be the main seal on the motor housing, but it would be surprising for it to go bad after replacing it a few years ago. Is there any water in the housing if you pull that off? Last time I had a Maxxum apart it was pretty simple actually. Remove the prop, and a couple long hex bolts and you can pull the motor out, replace the brushes, etc. pretty easy. I'd at least open the motor housing up and see if there's any moisture inside.
If you're talking about it not working with the pedal being wet you might just need a new pedal. |
