here is another example of what you can do if you are creative and like to shop around. find an old Ranger 690 or Champion Fish Hunter and restore it.
i got my 690 for $8k, ran it as is for a couple years as i got it and then re-powered with a brand new 5 year warranty 175 pro-xs. added electronics for about $3500 and am all in for about $21,500 with the trade from the original motor. there are a lot of people doing this and if you want to go see some really nice ones and also see how folks are working together to help those wanting to do it ... see our group on Facebook. as a group we have the numbers pretty well figured out and the whole group is pretty quick to find boats that hit the market. you have to be fast to get one, but it's a great alternative to buying less for more on the new market. i'll be putting another $2k into a glass restoration, but based on the replacement value of buying a new or used in this case ... it's really easy to justify.
