Did a repower 2 years ago and had my dealer mount the new Merc 150 4 stroke and a Evinrude E-tec 115 H.O. Which puts out 130 hp. Liked them both but felt the E-tec had much better hole shot torque and was just as quiet as the Merc. Having put 130 hours on my E-tec i am very happy with it. These new 2 strokes cannot be compared to the old 2 strokes at all! They are quiet, have NO smoke at all, start, idle and troll down to 2 mph with ease. The automatic fogging for storage is just fantastic on the E-tec, at the end of the season on my last trip of the year I activate it at the dock, walk up to my truck and it has completed its fogging cycle and shut itself down by the time I back the trailer down to the water! As for gas mileage it's just as good as my old 150 Yamaha.
Yea I have spent 120 dollars on injection oil but I have not needed to spend any money on oil changes, oil filters or my time doing oil/filter changes so I consider it a wash as far as that goes. I am a somewhat of a mechanical fanatic and feel that the level of engineering coming from BRP is at a much higher level that has trickled down from their aviation, train transportation divisions into consumer products divisions. BRP ATV's, snowmobiles and outboards just seem to have a much higher level of sophistication than many other products available.
