My buddy is looking at three used boats with Yamaha 4 strokes from 50-75hp. Just wondering how any hours is a lot for a four stroke - In particular a Yamaha. Would like thoughts and also opinions on these motors from anyone - especially Yamaha owners.

Well cared for, I would expect 6000 hours or more from a good -stroke.
BUT, not all motors are well cared for.
Do a compression test. Every cylinder should have nearly the same PSI, and little or no leak down.
Test drive it. It should start right up, idle smoothly and sound "good" through out it's RPM range.
