I had a 2008 Reata 1850 for 3 years. It was great for family cruising, tubing, etc however I did not like it for fishing. To me, it was more of a walleye jigging/trolling boat. Higher sides, so it would handle your Winnebago's, Mille Lacs, etc well. But for bass, muskie, northern fishing I did not like the layout. It has a higher front deck, high freeboard, deep cockpit and the full windshield was always getting in the way of casting. As soon as the kids were off to college and done with tubing I sold it and am back to a pure fishing platform - side console or tiller for me.
I have to respectfully disagree some of the above. I have a '09 1850 Reata and I really like most aspects of the boat. Fish muskie, northern, walleye. Works great for a all purpose family friendly fish and ski. With a fish and ski, there will be some compromises. I fish Lake of the Woods alot and I would like even a deeper boat like a Ranger Fisherman series or Skeeter WX2190, I think the sides of my boat, if anything, are a litte too low and the cockpit not deep enough. I have three guys in my boat casting for muskies all the time and the windshield never gets in the way. Yes, it would be easier at times fighting a muskie without the windshield there, but I sure like the windshield when it is cold in October fishing for muskies. To each there own, but a very good "compromise" boat in my opinion. If my wife would let me buy a bigger, deeper boat, I would sell you mine. |
