If it's a sealed, maintenance free battery I'd guess you are okay. If it's a regular lead acid battery, there are two caps on the top. You might want to pop those off and make sure the entire battery didn't fill up with water. If it is, probably want to remove the liquid down to the proper level with a syringe and then recharge.

Can you tell us what battery it was?
