| I've got a Sony Marine head unit in my muskie rig and I've been very pleased with it. It's plenty loud for being on the water. I've got two 8" speakers and four 4" speakers hooked to it, no amplifier. I've got about $250 in the whole setup. My suggestion is make sure you get a weather resistant enclosure with a closeable lid/face plate in case it's raining. You can pick one up for around $20. Also, get the best speakers you can afford. I've found that the cones in the speakers included with a head unit set dry rot within a year or so if they're expose to a lot of sun light/ uv rays. Also, when wiring the power source, run a set of leads directly to a battery with a dedicated shut off toggle switch. I've had several boats that if the radio was wired into other things, when you turn things on such as aerators, bilge pumps, or go to start your engine there is a momentary voltage drop in the power supply line which will cause the radio to shut down momentarily. | |
