Subject: Skimmer vs puck (pod) transducer on bow mount?

Hi Guys,

I have always had a puck style transducer on my bow mount trolling motor. But when I get a new HDS7 for the bow 2 years ago, it came with the skimmer so I bought some contraption to mount that instead of buying a pod style.

Here's the question, is there really any difference in functionality? Or is it strictly look?

Also, that skimmer on the front doesn't give as good of picture as I get on the dash from the skimmer on the dash. I have both the dash and bow HDS7 with the exact same settings, so I know it's not that. So I took the unit from the dash and plugged it in on the bow and didn't get the clear picture that I have on the dash.

So can those transducers go bad? It's only like 2 years old, but it's definitely the transducer and not the unit.

Thanks - Midge
