I would wire the unit directly to the starting battery with a 3 amp spade type in line fuse right off the + termanal of the battery.That's how it should be done.


I agree, except, the fuse is to protect the wiring in the boat in case of a short circuit or high current load. It does nothing to protect the depth finder. I see no problem using a 5 or 10 A fuse, if the wiring in the boat is 16Ga.
