I have the quick-detach plate and a Ram mount for mine. The ram really locks it down during transport and runs on rough water. Also saves it from accidental deploying, see some of the old posts on accidental deploying stories, nightmare in the making. Also the bracket comes in handy when I store the boat for the winter, take it off and my cover fits better.

I would get a ram mount. I had a accidental deployment it sucks I have a ram mount on new boat. worth the peace of mind
