Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Any properly maintained Tuffy, all the way back to 1976, could be as solid as the day it was built.
I'm not sure when the boats went to a full composite liner; I believe it was the late 90's. If you pull a seat base, it's easy to tell if the floor is composite. That said, if no one drills into the floor or transom in the laminated wood models and leaves an open hole, it will last nearly forever; that's how everyone built boats back in the 'day'.
If the boat you find interesting is solid now, it will be into the future if taken care of, check it out and look for areas where things were mounted and removed; make sure all holes are sealed. If the boat is older, re-seal engine bolts every few seasons, and reseal all seat base holes and other holes cut to install anything at all. |
