If you can fit it into your budget go big. 80lb Terrova with the 60 inch shaft. 101 if you have the room for batteries and if the budget falls in line. I'm unfamiliar with what type of boat you are putting it on. There are other places to trim a few bucks off here and there but I feel that a trolling motor isn't one of them. You always wish you had more.

One other suggestion is that when you do the upgrade and have buddies you fish with or in your area...set yourself up so that if they have the same type of system that they can be swapped around. This summer a friend had his motor crap out on him a day before he was leaving for Canada. I set mine up specifically for this situation. He just grabbed mine off of my boat and away he went. Same mounting plate, same plug, same battery set up, etc. There are 4 of us that have the capability to do this and we have a "community" spare older Powerdrive as a backup as well.
