I bought a new boat this year with a Yamaha 300. When the motor is at an idle in either forward or reverse I hear quite a bit of rattling or noise that sounds like it is coming from the lower unit or prop area. Is this normal? It seems to go away as soon as you speed up.

My Yamaha 250 4 stroke rattles just as you describe, especially after a long run idling in gear, I can really hear it chatter when it's running in my driveway while winterizing too.

You're not alone with this concern because the first time I noticed it a couple of years ago, it certainly got my attention too.
