a 5hp would be pretty doable. We got a 4hp 4stroke yamaha, runs well moves well. my only complaint with the 1 cylinder outboards is they seem to be a lot louder and dont idle quite as well as the 2 cylinder models. I'd be confident to say you would move fast enough though.

if the one you looked at is used, you could potentially ask them to test it out before you buy it to see it run and what have you, and no better place to test it than on your transom.
