If you find any line under the seal, it's already damaged, and likely water is getting in your lower unit. Time for a new seal. It's not too expensive to have done, but it is very important that you get it done. after you let it sit for a day or so, I would suggest removing the lower plug, and see if any water comes out. Water will be the first to come out, so if you get lube right away, you probably dodged a bullet.

Not sure which HP Opti you have, but check your owners manual on torquing the prop nut. Pretty sure it changed from 55 lb ft to 105 on my 200 Opti a few years ago. If your owners manual says 55, double check with your dealer. And you should torque it accurately.
