Location: davis,IL | I have a 2003 1750 fishhawk that i bought new with a Yammie F75. Looking at that (the transom cap) I would pop open the access cover shown in the picture, reach in and feel the plywood ( transom)...is wet or dry? (dry = good) Next I would have a small screwdriver or nail and try and push it into the plywood in various places you can access. ( both rear compartments) if the plywood is hard, you're most likely O.K. If the transom fails either test then the transom would most likely have to be replaced ( no fun). If O.K. i would seal up any open spots with a good marine sealant. This could have happened when the motor was installed. Another thing the transom looking at it from the side should be "square" with no waves or wiggles to it. I missed the part of him not using a transom saver, that is a must on all boats or else you;ll destroy the plywood in the transom.
