Just a quick update . . .

I got a 7'1 bass rod for my birthday and it fits with about an inch to spare. I shone a flashlight up into the rod tubes to take a closer look and it looks like there is a solid piece of flat plastic that lines the bottom of each tube that goes in and up at a slight angle to guide the rods into the tubes in an upwards direction. The blanks will flex VERY slightly when going in the tubes, but they look to be supported the entire length of the rod (looks like the solid plastic piece runs all the way up).

I think a 7'1 rod with a sock is all I would attempt.
